Winery in Andalusia, Spain
The winery is located in Arcos de la Frontera, at 150 metres above sea level. A beautiful estate that rambles over hectares and hectares of rolling hills, steeped in history that dates back to over 2,000 years ago, when the Romans had the vision and foresight to settle in this splendit and fertile land.
All vineyards were newly planted about 20 years ago. The winery is located near the Bonos reservoir and the Grazalema mountains, with strong temperature differences between day and night. The region is relatively rainy. The vineyards are located on sandy loess soils on which 4 different grape varieties grow. Humus was driven in continuously. Parts of the vineyards were already been replanted in the last few years. Other parts should be replanted in the future.
When the vineyards were newly planted more than 20 years ago, an irrigation system (drip irrigation) was installed. But that is a need of repair. A permit for irrigation of fountain water of 47 ha of vineyards exists.
In addition to the vineyards in Arcos de la Frontera, another 6 hectares of vineyards were leased around Jerez with Albariza soils (chalk). These grapes are used for the top qualities of the winery.
The gravitationally fed winery is composed of two different areas. The first devoted to producing the Barbazul wine in stainless steel tanks while the second is where Taberner and Taberner No. 1 are produced, in 18 units each 5,500 litre French Allier oak tapered wine vats. These two areas are above ground. This is also where the grape reception and grape processing incl. press are located. The third area, the underground barrique cellar, is the place called „home“ for storing the Premium wines. The barrique cellar holds more than 1,200 oak barriques.
The cellar is very large and there is enough space to expand the production to about 1 million kilograms of grapes per year. The stainless steel tanks alone have a total volume of 735,000 litres.
The winery covers an expanse of 4,600 sq metres and is a model of how architecture can blend in harmoniously with the landscape. Perfectly integrated in its surroundings, the “French Chateau“ style facility combines the modern with the traditional, seamlessly blending cutting-edge technology and means of production with age-old, purely artisanal winemaking techniques.
In addition to the cellar, there are the following areas:
- Grape reception and processing, pressing
- Own bottling plant, incl. packaging line with a capacity of max.
- 6,000 bottles per hour; labelling machine
- Reception hall, offices and meeting room
