About the Quinta

Manor house, winery, and vineyard situated in Central Portugal dating from 1777, with 7,5 hectares of land, 2 further apartments, swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, and much more. The Quinta and its grounds date back 250 years and in the very early days, it was infamously used by the soldiers of Napoleon who spent several nights here on their travels. The Quinta had an important local regional function serving as a wine-making facility for the farmers of the neighborhood plus served them with the technology to also process their olives in the Olive factory, which as you can see opposite, is still preserved today.



In more recent history the Quinta was upgraded and equipped for celebrations, parties, and weddings. The gardens have been extended and the swimming pool added along with the marquee tent and a modern large hotel kitchen are now great assets to host and facilitate events.

Nowadays the estate mainly serves as a hobby winery and holiday venue. The regional function it once had is no longer a necessity, but on the social front, the Quinta still plays an important role in celebrating fiesta’s at the end of harvest time for the village and surroundings. 


Delicious  Produce

The Quinta comes with 7.5 acres of land of which 3.5 are vineyards. These vineyards consist of 5 different grapes, producing both white wine (Fernão Pires) and red wine (Merlot, Castelou, Tinto Roriz and Touriga National). In good years these vineyards produce as much as 10.000 bottles of wine. There are also over 30 olives trees producing delicious, healthy oil. Other trees include orange, lemon , apples and pears, sharron fruits, plums, figs, walnuts, hazelnuts, quince and pears plus more. 



The Quinta and its estate boast a very central position in Portugal. This region of Portugal is one of the most enjoyable parts, with beautiful nature, great hiking, and bicycling. All this is set within stunning views and picturesque countryside small villages. Only a 20 minutes drive from Coimbra it is situated in a very small village, near Miranda do Corvo. The highway is 2 minutes away, but inaudible from the gardens or rest of the 7 acres of land. Porto and Lisbon are both within easy reach. Porto, in under 90 mins, and Lisbon in 1 hour and 45 mins meaning both airport options are a convenient distance from the Quinta. Coimbra is the former capital of Portugal and is still the third-largest city in Portugal. Coimbra has a very picturesque centre and is known for its old university the library of which stood model for the films of Harry Potter and the clothing of the students still mirrors those depicted in Hogwarts. The Quinta is set on one level with a large living room consisting of three linked parts. 

There is an extended kitchen, further 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and further utility room or guest bathroom. One bedroom is currently being used as a study. The whole building is about 25 meters long, and 15 meters wide and the ceilings are about 4 meters high. The

 Quinta has very thick walls (about 85 cm) so insulation is very nice especially in summer times as it can get quite hot in Central Portugal and the inside of the Quinta remains cool and pleasant. The kitchen is big, modern and fully equipped but still with a nice medieval atmosphere. The original flagstone tiles on the floor and stone walls date back 250 years together with the remains of a castle-like feature fireplace transport you back in time. The third bathroom is next to the kitchen and serves now as a guest bathroom and storage for the holiday apartments. 

The living room consists of three parts, which are connected to each other through an arch. There is a big fireplace, that heats up the complete Quinta when used. On top of the whole Quinta, there is a large attic, which is not being used for living at the moment but could be remodeled that way to provide further rooms or bedrooms. 

Adjacent to the Quinta there is the Adega, or in English, winery. The winery is complete with 2 x 6000-liter steel fermentation barrels, (the old concrete barrels still existing, but not being used anymore), 6 x smaller ones, destemming machine, hand presses in various sizes, wooden barrels, bottle filler, storage facilities for hundreds of bottles, a wine tasting table and chairs, etc. In short, everything to make wine is available, ready, and waiting. Next to the adega is the olive factory, still in its antique style glory not having being rebuild/remodeled in any way.

Opposite the adega and olive factory is a big garage, at present the wood storage room, very close to the living room and the fireplace.

In between these, at the front of the Quinta, there is the front garden. This is an area that is completely secluded from the rest of the land and premises. The jacuzzi is situated here.

On the other side of the quinta there is the main entrance as it is now being used, for being closest to the kitchen. There is also the garage for putting the car inside and another extra room where the sauna is situated.  Next to that part is the courtyard, with an outside log-burner and roof. Also included with this property is the Lamborghini tractor, log-splitter, and a lot of tools from maintenance and gardening. and the vineyards, a deep well, and a fishpond with lots of small fish and frogs in it. It would be easy to be make this into a nice picnic area.


The other buildings

On the premises there are two cottage-style apartments, now completely furnished and used for renting out for holidays through Airbnb. One is next to the Merlot fields with complete privacy, the other one very close to the Quinta but also with complete privacy again for both the guests in that apartment as also for the Quinta.

One apartment is suited for 4 people with 2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms /living room/kitchen and the other one is for up to  5 people with 2 bedrooms, one bathroom, kitchen, and garden.


The Cottage

There is also a totally separate hotel industrial-style kitchen (not pictured here), with a huge stove, freezers, fridges, and plenty of working room. This hotel kitchen can be used if one wants to utilize the Quinta in a more event-production way. 


The ruin

On the premises is also a ruin, which can easily be turned into a very nice detached house with at least two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, a kitchen and porch, and even a garden of its own.


The Future of the Quinta

This Quinta and everything that comes with it is ideal as a touristic haven or destination venue. The location is ideal, next to the cultural city of Coimbra. The estate has been already somewhat improved to be suitable for these purposes. There are options for creating a beautiful restaurant, tourism tours, bed and breakfast, and more holiday accommodation for example glamping tiny houses in the paddock and land.  Also, this place offers excellent options for retreats or weddings. There is even a horse paddock available next to the Quinta and in front of the blue house (about 75 X 75 meters) so it will be quite easy to keep horses.

There have already been talks with the tourist department of Coimbra and it seems, there is a need and interest in developing tourist events in this neighborhood. That in turn, brings in European money, for making this kind of vision possible, especially for events like “From Farmer to Table” and other rural options. For wine or other food production, if you are interested in more hectares of vineyards, there are about 1 or 2 hectares for sale just next to the property.
